MAY IS MOTORCYCLE SAFETY AWARENESS MONTH

May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month – offering a great opportunity to recommit to taking steps that help protect you and your passengers from injury. As a quick review, let’s take a look at some of Georgia’s motorcycle laws that are designed to help prevent your causing an accident and to protect your safety in the case that prevention is not possible.

Motorcycle Safety
  • Helmet use is mandatory in Georgia for all riders
  • Goggles or other eye protection is required for drivers unless the bike has a windscreen
  • The headlight must be on at all times while the motorcycle is in operation
  • At least on rear-view mirror is required

In addition, while two bikes can share one lane, motorcyclists cannot split lanes (drive between lines of vehicles) under any circumstances. These laws are designed to help protect the safety of everyone on the road and to help prevent serious or fatal injury to motorcyclists.

While your actions play a role in preventing accidents and minimizing injury when they occur, even the safest motorcyclist cannot always avoid those risks posed by other drivers.
