High traffic metropolitan areas like Atlanta are prone to have numerous Motor Vehicle accidents. Yet, many of these wrecks can be avoided if drivers remain sober, attentive, and obey traffic laws. Unfortunately, many drivers ignore or neglect safe driving. When they do, serious Auto Accidents may occur, leaving others with catastrophic injuries or dead.
One of these accidents happened recently in Atlanta on Ponce De Leon Avenue. According to police, the driver of a car drifted over the center line and slammed into a motorcycle head-on. A third vehicle was also involved in the accident, though it is unclear at this time how. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the errant vehicle was arrested for DUI and first degree vehicular homicide.
When one is severely injured or killed in an accident, the victim and his family can be left in a situation that is physically, emotionally, and financially trying. A family who loses a loved one, like in the accident on Ponce De Leon Avenue, may be left without a father, a spouse, a wage earner, and an emotional center. Expenses related to the accident, including but not limited to medical expenses and funeral costs, might leave the family struggling to make ends meet. Just when it seems impossible to move past the accident and find financial stability, these individuals can find the help they need from an Atlanta accident attorney.
An accident attorney can sit with a surviving family and help them decide the likelihood of success on a lawsuit against the driver who killed their loved one. Negligence and causation will be assessed on the facts, but in an instance of intoxication, like in the motorcycle accident mentioned above, both are likely to be satisfied. If both elements can be proven, then the surviving family may receive compensation. Then, medical bills, funeral expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering may be awarded. Monetary awards, though they will not bring the loved one back, can go a long way toward moving life back to normalcy in remembrance of the one who was tragically lost.
