Electronic Fetal Monitoring Errors

Transcript: Handling cases on behalf of children who have sustained a birth injury absolutely requires a strong understanding of the medical issues involved. One of those issues is electronic fetal monitoring.

An electronic fetal monitor is a device that is attached to the mother and, in some cases, what's called an electrode is actually attached to the scalp of the baby prior to the baby being born. The monitor provides very important information that tells the healthcare providers how the baby's doing - and in particular whether the baby is receiving sufficient oxygen.

We've been very involved in litigating issues - litigating cases involving electronic fetal monitor strips. I've attended a number of continuing education courses on electronic fetal monitoring and worked very hard to pursue cases involving failures on the part of health care providers to respond appropriately to a deterioration of an electronic fetal monitor strip.
