Transcript: Placing a loved one into a nursing home is a very stressful situation for all involved. The nursing home will often present you with numerous documents that they ask you to sign. One of those is an arbitration agreement. These agreements are designed to protect the nursing home and to hurt your rights. You are essentially waiving your right to a jury trial. I have been very active in advocating at the legislature to prevent these kinds of agreements from being enforced. Please never sign one of these agreements under any circumstances. The nursing home cannot refuse to admit your loved one if you won’t sign the agreement. I’m attorney Lance Lourie. If you’re concerned that your loved ones rights in a nursing home have been violated, please call us at Lourie, Chance, Forlines, Carter & King 404-760-7400 and let us evaluate the matter for you.
