Transcript: Nurses are the frontline healthcare providers for a patient in labor. They are spending the most time with the patient. They're watching the electronic fetal monitor strip more than anybody. And, by and large, most of the time they provide good care. However, we do see cases where the nurses make mistakes that result in injuries to the child. Often those mistakes include failing to recognize that the child is no longer doing well and that an emergency C-section is needed. Sometimes we see cases where the nurses don't adequately resuscitate a newborn baby. Sometimes they misinterpret the electronic fetal monitor strip. Sometimes we see cases where they don't call a physician soon enough so that that physician can come and quickly evaluate the patient and get an emergency cesarean-section done immediately.
