Transcript: Damages available in a Georgia wrongful death claim include an economic component and a non-economic component. Collectively it’s called the full value of the life of the decedent. The economic component of the damages involves a present award for what the decedent would have earned in the future. The non-economic component measures the value of life from the decedent’s perspective. Only the jury’s enlightened conscience could put a number on that figure. I’d like to give an example of two guys who like to fish. One has a big boat, a captain, lots of friends, first mate, catches big fish. The other gentlemen has a small boat with just room for him and his daughter. Which one is having more fun? I think they’re both having fun. I’m attorney Stephen Chance.
